Working for MI6 may not be what you expect. Being a secret organisation can present some unique challenges, such as what you can tell people about where you work. In so many other ways though, we are just like any other organisation. We have an HR department and project managers, there’s a design team, a wellbeing team, staff canteen and an on-site gym.
To help keep our operations and the identities of our agents secret, we keep the identities of our staff secret too. We have a team dedicated to help us keep cover, advise us on what to say when people ask, and how to navigate difficult conversations.
A diverse, supportive workplace
We are ordinary people doing extraordinary things. As a relatively small organisation, we pride ourselves on supporting each other and having a shared sense of purpose, values and experiences. Working so closely together on sensitive topics makes for a real sense of community. Even better, we have a diverse workforce with differing perspectives, backgrounds and mindsets, all working together within an inclusive environment.

We appreciate that the secret nature of our organisation might raise a lot of questions. Visit our frequently asked questions page to find the answers to any questions you might have about us, working here, vetting and more.
If all this makes you feel like MI6 is somewhere you could thrive, then why not apply now? It takes all sorts of people, with a range of backgrounds and experiences, to make our mission a success.
With our existence only public confirmed in 1994, much of what we do remains a secret. However, the work we do is under direction from the government. Find out more on our 'What we do' page.
